CRADLE OF LIBERTY 24 HOUR ADVENTURE RACE
The 5th annual running of the Cradle of Liberty Adventure Race kicked off at 5pm on Saturday June 28. 24 teams took to the field for what would be a grueling next 24 hours. A 12 mile run led to a 15 mile lake paddle, followed by road ride, trail ride, swampy orienteering course, more trail riding, more up hill, more down hill, more bugs, more mosquitoes, more horse flies, more swamp, more trails, more road, more bushwacking...and finally to the finish line! The real story of this race was the true sportsmanship that was shown by all teams. Team Eastern Mountain Sports was out on the course kicking butt, and also helped along some of the newer teams. Special props go to Teamhalfwaythere.com for "adopting" a member of team #17 and allowing him to shadow their team for the remainder of the race. Now that's really the true spirit of adventure racing. AWESOME GUYS! And great determination of the racer from Team #17 Kettle Creek Racing after his teammate was unable to continue. Amazing. In addition, teams #12 (Foxtrots) and #18 (Lo-speed Zombies) became 1 team after each lost a teammate and became the team 18/12 or 12/18. Really amazing, finishing a 24 hour fairly difficult course with someone you just met. Congratulations to Team Eastern Mountain Sports for winning the Coed/3 division and being overall winner in the 5th annual Cradle of Liberty Adventure Race! The race was a rogaine style course, and they were the only team to clear the entire course and collect all 500 points. This puts them in the running for the USARA National Championships, and earns them more points toward the Checkpoint Tracker Series Congratulations to team's: There's More (Coed/2), NYARA (Male/2), 24th Street (Mast Male/2); Cherubini Bros (Male/3), Thunder Road (Mas Male/3)--for their 1st place win in their respective categories. This race was a USARA National Qualifier as well as a Checkpoint Tracker Series Participant. We could put lots more details on this site---but why?? Check out all the cool stuff on this race including race blogs, leaderboards, times into checkpoints, notes from the course, etc. at www.checkpointtracker.com A special thanks to all of our volunteers, racers, and sponsors. Thank you to DCNR, Pa State Game Commission and Alices Wonderland!
